Split is the second-largest city of Croatia and the largest city of the region of Dalmatia, with just over 200,000 inhabitants.
The history of Split goes back 17 centuries to the time of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, who built his Palace on a peninsula near the Roman city Salona, where he intended to spend the last years of his life.
In the surrounding area you'll find forest, jogging trails, mountain climbing and biking, as well as numerous beaches with extraordinarily clean waters, from the well known Bačvice to the stone secluded oases all around Marjan.
